It is unknown whether the Jewish Congregation Delfzijl had a Rabbi in the 17th and 18th century. Most likely the members of the congregation have used the services of Rabbis in Appingedam.
Not until the beginning of the 19th century there is talk of someone performing the duty of Rabbi. It was Levij Samuel Withaan, born in Mainstockheim in 1766. He performed the duties of precentor and school teacher as well. Besides from that he performed circumcisions.
